Natural Slate Ogham Plaque- with the Gaelic inscription Éire / Ireland

Ogham is an Old Celtic Irish language dating back to 4th to 6th centuries AD. It's an Early Medieval alphabet used primarily to write the early Irish language inscriptions, taking the forms of linear strokes cut into stone, etched onto wood or written. There are roughly 400 surviving orthodox inscriptions on standing stone monuments throughout Ireland and western Britain; the bulk of which are in southern Munster, Ireland. As with the Ogham inscription for Éire Gaelic for Ireland, I have also designed the Celtic Triskele or Triple Spiral which is also is the oldest & primary symbol in Celtic culture. In Celtic belief it is thought to represent the sun or the radiation of ethereal energy.

My traditionally hand sandblasted slate hanging plaque which translates to Love and adorned with the Celtic Triskele for which is the oldest symbol of native Ireland.

Bring a little piece of Ireland into your home with one of my unique irish hand made crafts, made in the Heart of the Glens of Antrim. This beautiful Irish welcome sign is a a perfect gift for family and friends at home or for those who have emigrated throughout the world.

A lovely unique wee piece of Ireland to cherish.

Size approx 7 x 9 inches // 18 x 23 cm

With over 25 years in the art of traditional sandblasting my passion is creating unique slate gifts for you, your home, friends and family.

Each piece of reclaimed slate has been locally sourced in the Glens of Antrim. Whether from an old homestead roof or an old building, each piece of slate has its own little story to tell.

As slate is a natural material no two pieces will be the same, there will be a variation in texture and some pieces may have particles of 'fools gold' but this all adds to it's Irish beauty.
