DESCRIPTION

This historical novel is set in Rath Cahill in Co. Limerick on the edge of County Kerry, which centres on the story of one family during big events in the region at the beginning of the 19th century

The story begins with the wealth that came with the war between England and Napoleon at the beginning of the century. The family's events are examined through the shortages that followed the war, a war which ended at the same time as Captain Rock's rebellion and the beginning of Daniel O'Connell's era

That dangereous and eventful life is seen through the sharp eyes of the young woman at the heart of the story, raising a family on the edge of Sliabh Luachra. Through this same perspective we gain an insight into the nua protagonist, a nasty person named Alexander Hoskins and the the local community

Clíodhna was raised in west Limerick and writes with authenticity and understanding about this area in the novel and conjures a realistic and believable world in this novel
