This collection of four essays examines the circumstances of the Gaeltacht and the Irish language in the 20th century. Given the current crisis in the Gaeltacht, the authors propose radical measures to enhance Gaeltacht and Irish sustainability.
The authors propose that from their analysis it is clear that the status quo is not working for the Gaeltacht and an alternative approach is set out in this book. The four central initiatives proposed are: Irish linguistic zones; Community Trusts for the Gaels; Assembly for the Gaels; Academy for the Gaels.
