This book celebrates the life and the legacy of Geordie Hanna, a true great of Irish traditional singing.
Geordie’s family and friends have gathered together a wealth of information, and this material has been enlarged upon and shaped into an engaging narrative by his nephew Martin J. McGuinness. It is the story of a man whose gifts for singing, wit and storytelling caused him to stand out, both in the community of Irish traditional music and song and in his home place, a small corner of Tyrone, ‘on the banks of sweet Lough Neagh’. Martin presents an absorbing account of a Loughshore community and its many characters and customs, while also framing it within the wider historical context of Irish culture and society.
An Epilogue commemorates thirty years of the annual singing weekend, where singers from all corners of Ireland and beyond were drawn to Derrytresk and the Loughshore to celebrate traditional music and song in Geordie’s memory.
Here also are collected the songs Geordie was known for singing, presented with lyrics as he would have sung them, along with musical notation, creating an invaluable work of reference for future generations and ensuring that his legacy will endure.

The book also contains for the first time on CD a copy of Geordie's 1978 record "Geordie Hanna Sings".
