An Túr Solais is the first book in a trilogy written by Ríona Nic Congáil, first published in 2004.

This story opens with the abduction of a child: Monday's younger sister.  He soon finds out who is behind this episode: Danu his evil grandmother who is a queen on the island of Tír na mBan. He proceeds at a blazing speed to Tír na mBan, a magical island full of women, although his mother warned him sharply never to set foot on that island. He arrives on an island where the locals are ruled by a cruel ugly queen. Boys are not welcome there - especially boys with a loved one.

From start to finish, this is a nice book aimed at young teenagers. It would also be a great teaching aid in senior primary or junior secondary classes. The Irish in the book is not too complicated and therefore An Túr Solais could be read in any class where the children have a fairly good command of Irish. Aspects of traditional mythology as well as modern themes are interwoven throughout the story. It did well because it was a very interesting book. Skillful soft illustrations by Sharon O’Grady add to the story. The pictures help to convey the complex images to us. Overall, this book explores human nature and the importance of morality and family matters through the eyes of the main character Monday. The interesting obstacles placed in front of Monday attract the reader and he longs to explore his entire journey through the personal monologues
